Barista Tamper - Big Step Base

The Story.

Originating from discussions with 25 year industry veteran and 2015 QLD Barista Champion Adam Metelmann, the BigStep base was derived from the concept of pushing the boundaries of base size and tolerance within the parameters of precision baskets.
The result – the first Big Base tamper, copied endlessly – proudly made in Australia for you.

Why the BigStep?

The BigStep refers to the design of the larger diameter ‘stepped edge’ of the base, measuring in at 58.55mm (+/- 0.02mm).
This base shape enables a maximum surface area of coffee to be covered during tamping, including the prevention of a pinched edge of coffee particles or vacuum effect that can occur when using a large (or incorrectly) sized base.

Stepped edge, assuring no suction and cracked puck when tamping, with maximum surface area coverage.

How does this affect flavour? Simple.

Tech Specs

This base is made in Adelaide, Australia from high grade stainless steel, engineered for durability and strength. For Pullman’s Barista Tamper devotees, the BigStep retains the feel of a regular Barista base with the adjustable height handle suitable for all palm sizes and grips. With the soft compression zone to cushion the force of your tamp and protect your fingers, you’ll appreciate the luxury.

The Pullman BigStep is designed for those who tamp with a perfect vertical action as the big base has little room in the basket for errors in technique. Correct use also means your coffee bed will be tamped evenly and fully. This design can be used with all variations of dose weights (low dose/high yield or high dose/low yield) producing incredible extraction and mouthfeel, getting the most out of your coffee beans.

We look forward to you experiencing the best in coffee tamp innovation, materials and service. Currently suited for baskets sized at 58.70mm or greater with our Pullman 876 Filtration Baskets specifically designed for a perfect BigStep fit every time. Results may vary if different baskets are used.
